AHS Administration

Principal: Megan Barrington

At American High School we strive to help our students achieve in all aspects of their development.  It is my goal that during their time at American High School, every student make progress in their learning, expand their perspectives, and explore new interests.  As we kick off the start of a new school year, I am celebrating six years at American High School and my twenty-first year in secondary education.  I feel privileged to work within a community of educators who all value student voices, a respectful population of students with a strong desire to learn, and a network of families and community members who continue to make decisions that are best for students.

Education values the growth of the entire student, focusing on academics as well as necessary skills to be successful.  School is a place for students to be challenged as well as supported throughout their adolescence.  It is an environment that allows students an opportunity to explore, make connections, and relate to the world and their communities.  I am a product of FUSD and have the opportunity to work in this district my entire career as a teacher, program manager, and administrator. I believe in the values of this District and support the decisions made around student growth and mindset.  FUSD supports student diversity and their achievements.  The District’s focus is student-centered that incorporates 21st Century Learning to best support all students in their education.  The American High School Community supports their students and challenges them with a rigorous education that allows them to be successful after high school.  This community helps one another grow as an individual and as a group because it understands the value in working together to grow as one.  In my first year at American, I’ve been graciously welcomed by the community and feel fortunate to be part of this attendance area.

I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work as Assistant Principal at American High School.  I have eighteen years of experience teaching elementary school in the Fremont Unified School District and am looking forward to continuing to help all of the students at American grow into responsible and respectful members of our diverse community.   I believe in American’s vision and will strive to support all students to reach their academic, civil, and social potential. As an administrator, one of my goals is to create an inclusive  school environment for all.  I look forward to working with the administrators, teachers, support staff, parents and students to ensure a positive transition back to in person learning and a successful high school experience for all students.

As a part of the FUSD community since 2008 both as a parent, staff member, and most recently as a biology teacher and Science Department Chair at American High, I am excited to serve in my role as Assistant Principal. The American community is a vibrant mix of enthusiastic students, supportive families, and a dedicated staff geared towards maintaining a tradition of excellence with students being the focus. I am proud to be a member of this “Eagle Nation” where a trusting relationship binds all elements of the school community. I firmly believe in education that is holistic and involves creativity, culture, technology, and intellectualism. I am committed to working in partnership with the students, the families, and the staff of American to nurture the academic, social, and emotional development of each of our students in an equitable manner and to ensure that our students experience success each and every day.

Assistant Principal: GEORGE VUONG

I am excited and proud to be a part of the American High School staff and community as an Assistant Principal. It is an honor to be part of such a diverse and inclusive community that values equity, academic excellence, and supporting our students in their learning and social-emotional wellbeing. The school's vision of helping students take ownership of their own learning and preparing them to be productive members of society that respect all people of diverse communities align with my own core values. When I became a teacher, I understood how creating positive relationships with students can help them to not only succeed academically, but to improve their wellbeing in a safe learning environment as well. As an administrator, my goal is to continue to build a positive school culture through my daily interactions with the staff and students. My hope for this school year is to continue our work in creating a warm, and inclusive learning environment where all students feel supported.
